So this is fun, give it a try. I call them “Neutral Chords” “WHY?” Because they work well with major or minor chords. Being that they have no 3rd in the chord they ‘travel’ well in both harmonic situations. I like to use them when there is a guitarist in the band and you want to make the chords (between you and the guitarist together) have a 12 string chime like quality to the chord. It really makes the band sound “BIG” and doesn’t “overstate” the harmony of the chord.
Mentally, when playing this exercise be “both the guitarist and the bassist.” Drive both parts so you sound like two separate players. Don’t let one side dominate the other…make both parts “a force of sound and rhythm.” Eventually you’ll be like a musical schizophrenic and find yourself saying, “Hey, what’s wrong with schizophrenia as long as we all get along?” OR “Schizophrenia is never having to say you’re lonely” OR babbling on like this, talking to yourself like I am now!!!!!
Have fun…. all of you’s.
